Summary
- Last month was the sixth wettest March on record.
- Winter saw significantly more snow than average.
- Temperatures were over 1.5 degrees above average for March.
Last month was the sixth wettest March since record-keeping began in 1914, according to the E.D. Soulis Memorial Weather Station. A total of 128.2 mm of precipitation fell, nearly double the average of 65.8 mm, with three exceptionally wet days contributing significantly.
Despite the heavy rainfall, March saw only 13.5 cm of snow, approximately half the monthly average. However, the preceding winter months accumulated a substantial 239.5 cm of snow, well above the typical season's average of 159.7 cm.
The month was also warmer than average, with temperatures exceeding the norm by over 1.5 degrees Celsius. This marked the first warmer-than-average month since last October. The end of March featured warm days, reaching 20 C on March 30.
Looking ahead, the start of April is forecasted to bring a rollercoaster of temperatures and rain until Tuesday, prompting flood warnings and watches from the Grand River Conservation Authority due to high river levels.
