An area of high pressure previously delivered above-seasonal temperatures to the western prairies earlier this week. This ridge has begun to interact with an incoming low-pressure system, creating widespread instability across central British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. Early Thursday, scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms were observed from southeastern B.C. to central Saskatchewan, with periods of rain continuing throughout Thursday. Accumulations are expected to be localized due to a narrow band of precipitation. Strong north winds are anticipated as far south as Calgary on Thursday, heralding a colder air mass that will settle over most of the western prairies for the upcoming week. Calgary can expect daytime highs between 12 C and 16 C with unsettled weather until Wednesday. While overnight lows will remain seasonal in the city, higher elevations may experience snow or mixed precipitation. Calgary may see some rain later this week and into the weekend, but amounts are predicted to be minimal.
