Severe weather is impacting nearly every region of the United States. Minnesota has activated the National Guard to prepare for Winter Storm Iona, which is expected to bring 12 to 18 inches of snow to the central and southern parts of the state, with blizzard-like conditions possible due to wind gusts up to 45 mph. This storm has led to blizzard warnings across parts of Iowa, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, and South Dakota.
Meanwhile, Hawaii is enduring significant flooding caused by a Kona storm, with over 65,000 residents still without power. Images show homes severely damaged by the rising waters. The National Weather Service warns of whiteout conditions, hazardous icing, and power outages across the upper Midwest as the storm intensifies.
Beyond the Midwest and Hawaii, the Desert Southwest is facing a heat wave with temperatures potentially reaching 100 degrees or higher. The Plains region is bracing for high winds with gusts of 70 mph or more. Travel disruptions are already occurring, with over 1,600 flights canceled and more than 7,700 delayed across the U.S. due to severe weather and operational challenges.
