UP Rivers Breach Danger Level Amidst Heavy Rainfall

Following substantial rainfall across Uttar Pradesh and neighboring Uttarakhand, several key rivers have experienced a significant rise in water levels. The Ghaghra, Ganga, and Sharda rivers are currently flowing above their danger marks in Barabanki, Kaushambi, and Lakhimpur Kheri respectively, as reported by the Central Water Commission (CWC).

While the overall situation remains under control, with current levels below the critical danger mark of 84.73 metres, the Yamuna river is showing an increasing trend in Mathura. The Ganga and Yamuna rivers in Prayagraj have risen by nearly a meter over the past week due to continuous rainfall. Authorities have initiated flood control preparations, ensuring readiness for potential flood-like situations in the coming weeks. Water was released from upstream barrages, including Kanpur, Narora, and Haridwar, to manage the flow. A 24x7 Flood Control Room is actively monitoring river levels and potential threats.
