UK braces for exceptionally warm weather

Southern England is anticipating exceptionally warm weather for late September, with temperatures peaking between 27C and 28C by Friday. This warm spell builds over the next couple of days, following a generally dry Thursday across much of England and Wales, where temperatures will reach the low 20s.

This period of warmth contrasts sharply with ongoing drought conditions in widespread parts of England, including London and the South East, due to an extremely dry spring and summer. These dry conditions have placed significant pressure on water resources.

Looking ahead, a weakening cold front will gradually move southeastward, leading to a cooler, more mixed weather pattern over the weekend. Much of Saturday is expected to be dry, with an increased chance of rain or showers on Sunday, particularly in western areas.

Further into next week, the Met Office forecasts increasingly wet and windy weather, especially on Tuesday and Wednesday. There is a possibility of coastal impacts in the west and southwest due to a potentially deep area of low pressure and high spring tides.
