Severe weather continues to impact the UK, with yellow rain alerts issued for south-west England and Northern Ireland. These warnings, in effect from Thursday into Saturday, indicate the potential for further flooding of roads, homes, and businesses. Communities are still recovering from Storm Chandra, which previously caused flooding in Somerset and Dorset.
Across England, 66 flood warnings signifying expected flooding remain active. An additional 149 flood alerts warn of possible flooding. While a severe flood warning for the Lower Stour in Bournemouth has been lifted, water levels are still high, and residents who evacuated should await official guidance before returning.
The Met Office forecasts heavy rain for Cornwall, with 10-20mm expected widely and up to 30mm in some areas. Strong winds are also anticipated. Coastal areas in Devon and Cornwall are warned of large waves, potentially reaching 15ft, which could inundate seafronts and harbour walls, prompting vigilance from the RNLI.
