17 Feb
Summary
- Up to 6 inches of snow could fall on high ground in Wales and the West Midlands.
- Southern England faces up to 2 inches of rain, threatening further flood disruption.
- Vulnerable people are at increased risk due to cold weather warnings across England.

Families across the UK are facing significant weather disruption during half term, as forecasts indicate widespread snow and heavy rain. The Met Office has issued warnings for snow, with accumulations of up to 15cm (6 inches) possible on high ground in Wales and the West Midlands by Thursday morning. This is expected to cause travel difficulties for commuters and holidaymakers.
Concurrently, southern coastal regions of England are anticipating up to 5cm (2 inches) of rain between Wednesday morning and Thursday morning. This follows a period of exceptionally wet weather, with some areas experiencing their wettest January on record. The Environment Agency has urged the public to remain vigilant due to the ongoing threat of flooding. Sixty-five flood warnings and 179 flood alerts are currently in place across England and Wales.
The UK Health Security Agency has issued cold weather warnings for much of England, effective from Tuesday evening until Friday evening. These alerts highlight a heightened risk to the life of vulnerable individuals due to the anticipated drop in temperatures. Despite a sunny interlude on Tuesday, the combination of snow, rain, and strong winds poses a considerable challenge for the nation.
