UK Braces for Snow, Ice, and Widespread Flooding
15 Feb
Summary
- Yellow warnings for snow and ice are active for much of Scotland and England.
- England faces 74 flood warnings and 163 flood alerts, with 330 properties flooded.
- Snow accumulations of up to 15cm possible on higher ground, with icy conditions expected.

A yellow weather warning for snow and ice is in effect across most of Scotland and large parts of England until Sunday morning. This warning anticipates heavy snowfall, with accumulations of 1-3cm possible at lower levels and up to 15cm on higher ground. Icy conditions are also a significant hazard, particularly in north-east England and parts of Scotland where precipitation may fall on frozen ground, leading to very slippery surfaces.
Simultaneously, England is contending with a significant flood risk, with 74 flood warnings and 163 flood alerts issued by the Environment Agency. While flood defenses have protected over 24,000 homes and businesses, approximately 330 properties have already been flooded. The snow is expected to transition to rain into Sunday morning, with a possibility of freezing rain in some areas, followed by a thaw.
Looking ahead to next week, the weather is predicted to remain unsettled with blustery conditions and showers throughout the country at the start of the week. Conditions are expected to ease by Tuesday, but another period of unsettled weather is forecast for Wednesday, with Thursday anticipated to be drier.
