UK Heatwave Looms: 25C Scorcher Expected Monday

Britain is preparing for a brief return to summer conditions, with temperatures expected to reach 25C on Monday. The East of England is anticipated to be the hottest region, with London potentially reaching 25C. Other cities like Manchester and Cardiff could see highs of 22C, and parts of Scotland might reach 20C.

However, these warm conditions will not constitute a heatwave. The Met Office defines a heatwave as three consecutive days meeting or exceeding a specific temperature threshold for the area, such as 28C in London or 25C in Scotland. Forecasters warn of changeable weather from Monday to Wednesday, with a mix of rain, showers, and drier spells.

Unsettled conditions are expected to persist for the majority of September. Northern and western parts of the UK may experience frequent showers and strong winds. Temperatures are generally predicted to remain close to the monthly average of 17C, although occasional warmer days are possible.

Concerns have also been raised regarding potential flooding, particularly along the North Sea coast in areas like Hornsea, East Yorkshire, and coastal Norfolk.
