UK Braces for Arctic Blast: Snow Warnings Issued!
17 Feb
Summary
- Yellow snow warnings issued for parts of the UK amid freezing temperatures.
- Arctic air sweep brings potential for 10cm+ snow on higher ground.
- Rain expected across southern England, with potential travel disruption.

Yellow weather warnings have been issued for snow across the UK as temperatures plummet to -5C. Arctic air is sweeping the nation, with forecasters predicting freezing conditions for Wednesday and Thursday. Snow is expected to develop as weather fronts from the Atlantic meet the cold air, particularly over higher ground in the Midlands, mid and southeast Wales, and parts of southern England.
Up to 10cm of snow is possible on altitudes of 300m and above, potentially causing travel disruption and cutting off rural communities. Meanwhile, southern England faces a separate yellow warning for rain, with 10 to 20 mm expected widely, and possibly double that amount in some areas. Sharp frosts and icy conditions are also anticipated, especially in Scotland.
