UK Snow Alert: Winter Arrives Early This Month!

Forecasting models suggest a significant weather front could arrive in the UK within days, bringing snow and heavy rain. The GFS model indicates precipitation moving in from the Atlantic around October 22, initially as rain for Wales and England.

By mid-morning on October 22, the models predict this precipitation will turn to snow over regions like the Pennines and parts of Scotland. Snowfall rates could reach approximately 4mm per hour, with lighter flurries possible in the Highlands.

Most of the rain is expected to clear into the North Sea by midday, though light snow may linger near western Scotland and the Scottish-England border. This follows earlier Met Office advice that snow could fall this weekend, especially over higher ground in northern areas, alongside potential hail and thunder.

The weekend forecast includes chilly conditions with widespread showers, particularly intense in Scotland. Sunday is anticipated to be largely dry with sunny spells, while Monday could see a return to cloudier, damp weather with light rain across the UK.
