UK Snow Alert: 70cm Blizzard Incoming!
18 Jan
Summary
- Up to 70cm of snow is predicted for parts of the UK in late January.
- Temperatures could plummet to -14C in Scotland on January 30.
- A battle between Atlantic and eastern weather systems is expected.

Weather maps reveal that parts of the UK could experience up to 70cm of snow by the end of January. The Scottish Highlands and central Scotland are predicted to receive heavy flurries, with 71cm expected by 6pm on January 31. Northern England, including the Pennines, may see as much as 24cm.
Temperatures are set to plummet, with central Scotland facing potential lows of -14C on January 30. The Met Office describes an ongoing "battle" between Atlantic weather systems and colder eastern influences during the latter half of January. Initially, milder conditions are expected, but a transition to colder weather is increasingly likely.
This potential shift towards colder conditions raises the probability of snow across various regions. Looking into February, a pattern of low pressure in the west and high pressure in the northeast is anticipated, further increasing the risk of cold weather and wintry hazards affecting the UK.
