UK Heatwave Shattered: Temperatures to Plummet 19C!
28 Jun
Summary
- Temperatures expected to drop by 19C, ending the current heatwave.
- Hottest June day record broken for three consecutive days this week.
- Some areas will experience 18C, while southern regions may see 27C.

The prolonged heatwave gripping the UK is officially coming to an end, with forecasters predicting a significant drop in temperatures. This shift will bring much fresher conditions and a considerably lower chance of further impacts from the extreme heat.
The nation experienced record-breaking temperatures earlier this week, with the hottest June day ever recorded on three consecutive days. The mercury soared to an astonishing 37.3C in Santon Downham, Suffolk.
Now, a dramatic temperature decrease is expected across the country. While some southern regions may still see highs of 27C, these will not meet official heatwave criteria. Many areas will experience temperatures as low as 18C, a stark contrast to the recent highs. Cities like London can expect around 21C, rising to 26C, while the West Midlands will be cooler at 18C. Further north, Glasgow is forecast to be 15C and parts of Northern Ireland as low as 13C.
Despite the anticipated cooler weather, an amber warning for extreme heat remains active in parts of east and southeast England until Sunday morning. Overnight temperatures are unlikely to fall below the high teens Celsius. However, fresher conditions are expected to establish from the west throughout Sunday, leading to lower temperatures and humidity compared to the preceding days.
