UK Braces for Frosty Health Alert
26 Dec
Summary
- Yellow cold health alert issued for south-west England until Dec 27.
- Low temperatures may increase healthcare use by vulnerable people.
- Two men missing off Devon coast after Christmas Day sea swim.

Cold temperatures and overnight frost are expected to continue across parts of the UK, leading the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) to issue a yellow cold health alert for south-west England. This alert is in effect until midday on December 27, with warnings that low temperatures could strain healthcare services and pose greater risks to vulnerable populations.
The forecast indicates dry but chilly conditions, with top temperatures around 6-7C, feeling cooler in the south. While sunny spells are expected, there's a low chance of snow. Similar weather is predicted for Saturday and Sunday, remaining breezy with some potential drizzle.
Separately, an incident off the coast of Devon saw two men go missing after entering the water on Christmas Day. Emergency services are urging the public to refrain from sea swimming due to hazardous conditions, despite no official warnings for Boxing Day.
