Motorists are being warned of potential flooding disruptions during what is anticipated to be the busiest Christmas getaway on record. The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for areas including the Lake District and South Wales, highlighting the risk of flooded roads that could impact key routes.
Traffic forecasts indicate that Friday will experience the peak of holiday travel, with an estimated 24.4 million vehicles expected on the roads. Furthermore, the RAC predicts 37.5 million leisure car journeys between Wednesday, December 17, and Christmas Eve, the highest volume recorded for the week before Christmas since 2013.
Additional yellow warnings for rain are in effect for Dumfries and Galloway, the Scottish Borders, and South Lanarkshire, following earlier amber alerts. Regions including Glasgow, Scotland's west coast, north-west England, north-west Wales, and Belfast are also bracing for potential travel delays due to adverse weather conditions.
