UK Prepares for Widespread Snowfall as Arctic Air Moves In
13 Nov
Summary
- Temperatures to plummet below average next week
- Snow expected across northern regions, possible nationwide
- First major snowfall since last winter on the way

According to the latest weather reports, the UK is bracing for a significant shift in weather conditions over the next week. After enjoying unseasonably mild temperatures in recent weeks, the country is now set to experience its first major snowfall since last winter.
The change in weather is being driven by a shift in wind direction, which will bring in colder Arctic air across the UK. Forecasters predict that snow has already begun falling in parts of Scotland, with people spotted walking through flurries on Cairngorm Mountain in the Highlands.
By the middle of next week, the cold air is expected to spread across the entire country, with a high chance of snowfall in many regions. The Met Office has warned of a "big change" in the weather, with temperatures set to drop several degrees below average for this time of year.
ITV forecaster Laura Tobin described the prospect of snow as "exciting," noting that the mild and wet conditions will give way to colder, drier, and brighter weather, albeit with the risk of overnight frosts. The Arctic air is expected to move across the UK by Monday, potentially leading to snow showers in northern parts of the country.
While the snow may initially be confined to northern regions, forecasters suggest that by the middle to end of next week, many parts of the UK could see snowfall, with the potential for a weather system to push the snow further south.
