Forecaster Dashes Hopes for Sizzling Indian Summer in 2025

As of September 29th, 2025, the UK is experiencing a warm autumn, but a weather forecaster has dashed hopes for a repeat of the sizzling Indian Summer seen in 2011. According to Nick Finnis, a meteorologist with NetWeather, temperatures are expected to peak at 19°C in several regions, such as the East of England and the Midlands, on Thursday.

However, this is around 10°C cooler than the October 2011 peak, when a record-breaking 29.9°C was recorded in Gravesend, Kent, during the last Indian Summer. Mr. Finnis has stated that the current warm spell does not meet the Met Office's definition of "a warm, calm spell of weather occurring in autumn, especially in October and November."

While the coming week will be pleasant and sunny, with temperatures widely expected to reach 18°C and 19°C, the forecaster has warned that the weather is set to turn cooler next weekend as unsettled conditions return from the Atlantic. The article notes that there are now no flood warnings in place, following a series of alerts issued after rain last weekend, which led to flooding and damage in parts of the North West of England.
