The United Arab Emirates is currently undergoing a notable cold spell, marking some of the coldest winter days of the season. On Thursday, January 22, the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) reported the lowest temperature recorded was a chilly 0.2ºC at Jebel Jais early in the morning.
This cold snap was anticipated, with the country's Meteorological Department having previously confirmed that a cold spell would impact the nation during the latter half of January. Fair to partly cloudy weather is expected for Friday, January 23, with conditions becoming humid by Saturday morning in some western areas.
Light to moderate southeasterly to northeasterly winds are predicted to blow, occasionally freshening to speeds of 10-20 km/hr, potentially reaching up to 35 km/hr. Temperatures are expected to drop to a low of 8ºC in areas like Jebel Jais, while reaching a high of 25ºC in parts of Abu Dhabi.
Major urban centers will also experience the chill. Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah are forecast to see temperatures dip to a low of 13ºC. Highs in these respective emirates are expected to be around 21ºC, 22ºC, and 22ºC. The sea conditions in the Arabian Gulf will be moderate to slight, with slight conditions in the Oman Sea.
