A tropical wave is expected to emerge from the coast of Africa on August 24, 2026. Forecasters anticipate marginally conducive environmental conditions, suggesting a tropical depression could form by the middle to latter portions of the week.
While it remains too early to determine specific impacts on Florida, residents are advised to remain prepared as the Atlantic hurricane season is traditionally most active between mid-August and mid-October. The National Hurricane Center is also monitoring two other Atlantic systems.
One system near Portugal is expected to dissipate due to unfavorable conditions. Another, Invest 95L, located in the Central Atlantic southeast of Bermuda, may see some development as it moves northward this week. This current activity follows a relatively quiet summer in the Atlantic, although the Pacific season has been exceptionally busy.
Historically, the peak of the Atlantic hurricane season occurs around September 10, with most activity between mid-August and mid-October. Experts remind that even a below-normal season can be impactful with just one storm making landfall.
