Tropical Storms Priscilla and Jerry Churn Up Coasts, Threaten Flooding

On October 9th, 2025, Tropical Storm Priscilla has been downgraded from its previous hurricane status as it continues to move along Mexico's western Pacific coast. Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Jerry has strengthened in the Atlantic and is approaching the Leeward Islands.

Priscilla, which had approached major hurricane strength earlier this week, is now centered about 255 miles west of the southern tip of Baja California, moving northwest at 9 mph with maximum sustained winds of 60 mph. The storm is bringing high surf and gusty winds to the region, which remains under a tropical storm watch. Forecasters warn of the potential for heavy rainfall and flash flooding as Priscilla continues its path along the Mexican coast and into the U.S. Southwest this weekend.

In the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Jerry has intensified and is located about 440 miles east-southeast of the northern Leeward Islands, moving west-northwest at 18 mph with maximum sustained winds of 65 mph. Jerry is expected to strengthen further and could become a hurricane by the weekend. Forecasters predict 2 to 4 inches of rain across the Leeward Islands, raising the risk of flash flooding.

Elsewhere, Tropical Storm Octave in the Pacific has been weakening and is likely to dissipate on Thursday. The storm, located about 515 miles south-southwest of Baja California's southern tip, does not pose a threat to land.
