As of October 10th, 2025, the National Hurricane Center is closely monitoring two active storm systems in the Atlantic basin. Tropical Storm Jerry is currently impacting the northern Leeward Islands, bringing torrential rainfall to the region. The storm is forecast to continue moving northward, away from the islands, over the next 24-48 hours.
Meanwhile, the 11th named storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season has formed in the open waters of the Atlantic. Subtropical Storm Karen is currently located about 570 miles north-northwest of the Azores, with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph. Forecasters expect Karen to weaken and transition into a post-tropical low by Saturday.
So far this hurricane season, four storms have strengthened into hurricanes, with three of those reaching major hurricane status. However, only one storm, Tropical Storm Chantal, has made landfall in the United States. As the peak of the hurricane season approaches, residents in vulnerable coastal areas are advised to closely monitor the progress of any developing systems and heed all official warnings and evacuation orders.
