23 Oct
Summary
- Heavy rain and thunderstorms caused significant waterlogging in Trichy.
- Roads and low-lying areas experienced temporary inundation.
- Corporation officials took measures to drain stagnant water from bridges.
Trichy experienced a significant downpour with thunderstorms on Friday evening, leading to temporary flooding in various parts of the city. Key thoroughfares and low-lying residential areas faced inundation, disrupting normal life and traffic for a period. Corporation officials, including Commissioner N Ponmani, conducted on-site inspections at affected junctions like Trichy junction RoB and Mannarpuram junction. Immediate actions were initiated to clear clogged drainage points and remove stagnant rainwater from the bridges.
The heavy rainfall, which lasted for over an hour, significantly reduced visibility, prompting two-wheeler riders to seek shelter. Vehicles struggled to navigate through the accumulated water. Areas such as Thennur, Puthur, Thillai Nagar, Melapudur, and Salai road were among those temporarily affected. Notably, a government bus was partially submerged in floodwaters in the Melapudur subway.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued rainfall, with heavy showers expected on Saturday, October 24, and heavy to very heavy rainfall anticipated on Monday, October 26.
