The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for several Mid-Atlantic states and the District of Columbia, valid until 10 p.m. EDT on Thursday. This alert warns of the potential for a few tornadoes, alongside damaging winds reaching up to 70 mph and hail. The most significant tornado threat is concentrated across central and northeastern Maryland, influenced by atmospheric conditions related to the bay breeze. Residents in areas including Washington D.C., parts of Virginia, Maryland, southeastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey, and Wilmington, Delaware, are advised to remain vigilant.
Severe weather is anticipated across the Baltimore metro area during Thursday evening, with storms expected to move through between 3:30 and 6 p.m. New York City and other parts of New York could also experience severe weather, including heavy rain and flash flooding, though no tornado warning has been issued for the state. NYC Emergency Management has issued a travel advisory, urging caution due to potential flooding on streets and underpasses. The strongest storms are generally expected from the afternoon into the early evening, particularly between 4-7 p.m. EDT in the Washington-Baltimore corridor.
