Severe thunderstorms are predicted to rapidly form over the western U.P. this evening, progressing east-southeastward through the night. The Storm Prediction Center has identified multiple counties within the watch, including Alger, Baraga, Delta, Dickinson, Gogebic, Houghton, Iron, Marquette, Menominee, Ontonagon, and Schoolcraft.
The storm environment is conducive to the development of scattered supercells, increasing the risk of a few tornadoes, potentially including strong EF2+ events. Additionally, residents face the threat of isolated, very large hail measuring two to two-and-a-half inches in diameter. By late evening, as storms cluster, the danger of wind damage will escalate, with forecasts indicating possible significant wind gusts of 75 mph or higher.
