11 Sep
Summary
- Met Office issues warning for "unsettled conditions" over the weekend
- Thunderstorms, strong winds, and heavy showers expected across the country
- Sunshine and drier weather more likely in the east, but temperatures will remain cool

According to the latest forecast from the Met Office, the UK is set to experience unsettled and turbulent weather over the upcoming weekend. The national weather service has warned of thunderstorms, strong winds, and heavy showers that are expected to impact the country.
On Thursday, the far north-west of Scotland will see windy conditions combined with spells of rain. Elsewhere, a mixture of sunshine and blustery showers is anticipated, some of which may be heavy and accompanied by a risk of hail and thunder, particularly in western parts of the UK.
Friday is forecast to bring breezy conditions, with overnight showers in the western coastal areas becoming more widespread. By Saturday, the showers may be heavy in places, with the possibility of isolated thunderstorms. Stronger winds and coastal gales are also a possibility, according to the Met Office.
Despite the unsettled nature of the weather, forecasters have stated that a named storm is unlikely to hit the country. Sunshine and drier conditions are most likely to be found in the east, though temperatures will remain on the cooler side, with highs of around 17°C-18°C expected in London on both Saturday and Sunday.
The Met Office's chief meteorologist, Paul Gundersen, has said that the weather service has been monitoring a deepening area of low pressure over the North Atlantic, which might bring impactful weather to the UK, most likely on Sunday and Monday. However, he has emphasized that a named storm is currently not expected.
