Telangana Authorities Mobilize for Potential Flood Disaster

On the morning of August 16, 2025, Telangana's Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy issued a set of directives to officials in preparation for the forecast of moderate to heavy rainfall in 9 districts of the state. The affected districts include Nizamabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Vikarabad, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, and Khammam.
In anticipation of the impending downpour, the Chief Minister has ordered the deployment of rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) in the vulnerable areas. Low-level bridges, causeways, and waterlogged roads will be closed to the public, with the police and revenue departments tasked with setting up barricades.
The irrigation department has been directed to closely monitor water levels in reservoirs, lakes, and ponds, and to inform the concerned officials and ground-level staff if water needs to be released. Sandbags will be placed in advance around brimming water bodies.
The health department has been instructed to stock up on essential medicines and organize health camps where necessary. All relevant departments, including power, panchayat raj, roads and buildings, and fire services, have been directed to work in coordination to ensure effective relief measures.
According to data from the Telangana Development Planning Society, several locations in the Adilabad and Mancherial districts have already recorded over 100 mm of rainfall as of Saturday morning. The highest of 167.8 mm was recorded in Tamsi, Adilabad.
