Tamil Nadu braces for heavy monsoon downpours

Tamil Nadu is bracing for significant rainfall as a newly formed low-pressure area over the South Andaman Sea intensifies. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for 16 districts, anticipating heavy to very heavy showers across southern, Delta, central, and northern parts of the state.

The weather system is projected to bring widespread precipitation. Districts such as Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, and the Delta regions are among those expected to experience intense downpours. Coastal areas like Tiruchendur have already seen localized flooding, prompting warnings for residents near riverbanks.

Authorities are emphasizing the need for caution, particularly in low-lying areas and along riverbanks. The IMD's forecast suggests a continued spell of wet weather, with thunderstorms and lightning also predicted in some regions, bringing a noticeable drop in temperatures.
