Sweltering Temperatures and High Humidity to Linger in New York
24 Jul
Summary
- Heat advisory in effect Thursday afternoon in Capital Region and Hudson Valley
- Temperatures expected to feel like 97-98 degrees on Thursday, 100-101 degrees on Friday
- Rain and thunderstorms expected on Friday, but temperatures to remain high

This week, residents of New York's Capital Region and Hudson Valley are bracing for a prolonged heat wave. On Thursday, June 22nd, a heat advisory will be in effect from noon to 8 pm, covering areas including Montgomery, Washington, Saratoga, Schenectady, Albany, Greene, Ulster, Rensselaer, Columbia, and Dutchess counties.
Meteorologists at the National Weather Service in Albany predict that a high-pressure system to the west will be driving up the temperatures, with the high in Albany reaching 92 degrees. However, the humidity will make it feel much hotter, around 97 to 98 degrees.
The sweltering conditions are expected to continue on Friday, June 23rd, with the feels-like temperature potentially reaching 100 to 101 degrees. While rain and thunderstorms are expected during the day, the clearing skies and increased moisture in the air will contribute to the oppressive humidity.
Fortunately, the weekend is expected to provide some relief, with Saturday, June 24th, forecast to be dry. However, rain and thunderstorms are expected to return on Saturday night and continue through Sunday, June 25th, as a cold front moves in. Despite the precipitation, temperatures are expected to remain high, though the humidity should be less intense.
