England Braces for Torrential Rain and Coastal Flooding
2 Feb
Summary
- Several flood warnings are active in southwest England due to forecast heavy rain.
- High tides are expected to cause flooding along coastal areas and estuaries.
- A Met Office weather warning for rain is in effect from Monday evening to Tuesday.

Southwest England is on alert for significant flooding as heavy rain is predicted between Tuesday and Thursday. The Environment Agency has issued multiple flood warnings and alerts across Cornwall and Devon. Coastal areas, including the Tidal Fal Estuary, Plymouth Sound, and stretches from Lizard Point to Rame Head, are expected to experience flooding due to high tides.
A Met Office weather warning for rain will be active from Monday evening until Tuesday evening, forecasting potential flooding and transport disruption. Residents and visitors in affected areas are strongly advised to monitor the situation closely. They should also avoid coastal roads, footpaths, and car parks that may become submerged and prepare any flood protection measures they have.
This forecast follows recent severe weather events in late January, including storms Ingrid and Chandra which caused widespread disruption. Earlier in the month, Storm Goretti brought powerful winds of up to 99mph, leading to fallen trees and power outages. During that storm, a tragic incident occurred in Mawgan, Helston, where a man lost his life when a tree fell onto his caravan.
