All homes in Northern Ireland that lost power during Storm Chandra have now been reconnected. Although warnings for rain, flooding, and wind have ended, a yellow ice warning remains in effect. The storm caused significant disruption, leaving thousands without electricity and leading to the closure of over 350 schools on Tuesday. Katesbridge in County Down experienced its wettest day on record, with 100.8mm of rain falling within 24 hours.
Road closures are still in effect in several areas, including Tandragee, Lisburn, and near Newry. While most flights at Belfast City Airport were cancelled, normal operations are expected to resume. The Strangford Ferry has also restarted its service. The BetMcLean Cup semi-final between Glentoran and Coleraine was postponed due to the storm's impact, with a rescheduled date set for next Tuesday.
Storm Chandra, named by the Met Office, is the third major storm to affect the UK this January. In the Republic of Ireland, Enniscorthy was severely affected by flooding, with approximately 30 homes and 20 businesses impacted. Thousands of homes, farms, and businesses experienced power outages, and emergency services responded to numerous flooding and water rescue incidents.
