Severe Weather Batters Italy, But Relief on the Horizon
29 Aug
Summary
- Extreme severe weather confirmed in Italy, moving from north to south
- Situation to improve significantly by Saturday afternoon
- Violent thunderstorms expected in southern Lazio and Campania

According to the latest weather reports, Italy has been experiencing a phase of extreme severe weather over the past few days. The storm system, linked to former Hurricane Erin centered in the British Isles, has been moving from the north and Tuscany towards the rest of central Italy and parts of the south.
The situation has been closely monitored, and the meteorologists have confirmed that the severe weather will continue to impact the northern and central regions, including Lombardy, Triveneto, Eastern Liguria, Tuscany, Umbria, and Upper Lazio, with even more violent phenomena in the next few hours. By the end of Friday, the severe weather will have reached the inland Marche region, all of Lazio, and Campania, with the most intense weather expected to impact southern Lazio and Campania, where violent thunderstorms are anticipated.
However, the good news is that the situation is expected to improve significantly by Saturday afternoon. The severe weather will move towards the Balkans, and Italy will see widespread low-level weather, with showers expected, particularly in the Triveneto region, from Tuscany and Lazio, rapidly moving towards the Adriatic regions as far as Salento. The major islands will be spared from the rain, and conditions will rapidly improve across Italy from the afternoon.

On Sunday, beautiful sunshine is expected almost everywhere, before further deterioration is expected in the evening in the northwest due to the arrival of another low-pressure system linked to former Hurricane Erin.
