Thunderstorm Watch Issued as Massachusetts Braces for Intense Summer Storms
6 Sep
Summary
- Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for 8 counties in Massachusetts
- Storms expected to bring damaging winds, flooding, and possible tornadoes
- Peak of storms expected between 2 PM and 8 PM on Saturday
On September 6, 2025, a severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for several counties in Massachusetts as the region braces for intense summer storms. The National Weather Service has placed Essex, Franklin, Hampden, Hampshire, Middlesex, Norfolk, Suffolk, and Worcester counties under the watch, which is in effect until 8 PM.
According to Boston 25 News Meteorologist Tucker Antico, the storms are expected to bring damaging winds, flooding, and even the possibility of tornadoes. The peak of the storms is anticipated to occur between 2 PM and 8 PM on Saturday. While the North Shore and Boston may see some rain after dark, the storms are expected to have weakened by that time.
The combination of mid-80s temperatures and humid conditions is fueling the afternoon front, creating the perfect ingredients for these summer storms. Antico has expressed his greatest concerns are for wind and flooding, though the threat of tornadoes, though low, is still present.

Sunday is expected to be a drab day, with cloudy skies and on-and-off showers throughout southern New England. However, the cooler and less humid conditions mean severe weather is not a concern for the day.
