Saskatchewan Storm Unleashes Torrential Rain and Hail
6 Sep
Summary
- Severe storm caused downed power lines and tree damage.
- Hail the size of golf balls to nickels was reported.
- Heavy rainfall led to flash flooding in Kindersley.

A severe storm that struck west central Saskatchewan on Friday night resulted in significant damage, particularly in the Kindersley area. Social media reports emerged around 9 p.m. Friday, showing downed power lines, fractured tree branches, and ground accumulation of hail resembling snow.
Storm chaser Jenny Hagan observed systems producing golf ball to nickel-sized hail before reaching Kindersley. She described a "copious amount of rain" and strong winds that toppled power lines and trees, leading to flash flooding on Highway 7. Hagan estimated Kindersley received between one and one-and-a-half inches of rain.
The storm system progressed northward, bringing hail and heavy rain to Biggar before moving just north of Saskatoon. Looking ahead, meteorologists anticipate substantial rainfall across south and central Saskatchewan throughout the remainder of the Labour Day weekend and into the following week.
Hagan predicted that stronger storms are likely to enter southwestern Saskatchewan, followed by heavy rainfall that will move eastward. She expressed concern for areas already saturated by this year's rainfall, noting that the ground's inability to absorb more moisture will exacerbate flash flooding risks.
