San Diego Prepares for Major Rainstorm, Crews on Standby

The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department (SDFD) has assured the public that their city crews are ready and prepared to respond to any needs that may arise during the storm.

According to Candace Hadley, the media manager for SDFD, the department is taking proactive measures to pre-position crews and resources in anticipation of the heavy rainfall. This includes having swift-water rescue teams and lifeguards on standby, ready to deploy if necessary.

The National Weather Service has warned that this storm system could bring significant precipitation to the area, with forecasters predicting multiple inches of rainfall for some valleys and urban areas. David Munyan, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, stated that it is still too early to determine exactly which areas will see the heaviest rain, but flooding is a real concern given the expected rainfall.

To mitigate the potential impact of the storm, the city's stormwater department has been clearing drains and sweeping streets to keep debris out of local waterways. SDFD is also reminding drivers to exercise caution, slow down, and never attempt to drive through flooded areas.

San Diego County and Cal Fire are also providing free sandbags at fire stations in unincorporated areas to help protect property. The public is encouraged to report any concerns through the city's "Get It Done" app, and the crews will respond as quickly as possible.
