According to the latest weather reports, the remnants of Hurricane Humberto, which has been wreaking havoc in the Caribbean and the United States this week, are expected to cross the Atlantic and hit Britain this weekend. The storm, which is forecast to transition into a powerful extratropical system, is set to bring strong winds and heavy rain to the UK.
Meteorologists predict that the storm, which could be named "Storm Amy," will likely make landfall in Northern Ireland on Friday evening, before moving across Wales and Scotland in the early hours of Saturday morning. The northern and western parts of the country are expected to bear the brunt of the storm, with wind speeds potentially reaching up to 70mph and rainfall amounts of 30-60mm.
Jim Dale, a meteorologist from British Weather Services, has warned that this could be a "big one," with the potential for significant disruption. "Storm Amy looks destined to unfold off the ashes of Humberto on Friday or Saturday, if it all goes to plan," he told the Mirror. "There will be lots of wind and rain."
The Met Office has also confirmed that Humberto's remnants will likely have an impact on the UK's weather later this week, with the potential for "wet and very windy conditions" around the first weekend of October.
