A tornado warning was issued for central Racine County on April 15, with the National Weather Service's Sullivan/Milwaukee office issuing the alert at 8:24 p.m. The warning indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing tornadoes and strong winds was situated near Wind Lake.
The storm was tracked moving east at 40 miles per hour. Officials urged those in the affected area to immediately seek shelter in a basement or interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. If outdoors, people were advised to find the closest substantial shelter and protect themselves from flying debris.
Previous tornado warnings had been issued for Walworth County, southwestern Racine County, and northwestern Kenosha County. Additionally, a severe thunderstorm warning for Milwaukee, West Allis, and Wauwatosa included potential for winds up to 60 miles per hour and nickel-sized hail.
These warnings followed severe storms on April 14 that brought multiple tornadoes, hail, and flooding to central and southeastern Wisconsin, leading Governor Tony Evers to declare a state of emergency the next day.
