Pune sizzles: Mercury soars past 40°C!
20 Apr
Summary
- Lohegaon recorded the highest temperature at 41.9°C.
- Temperatures rose due to a pre-rainfall system over Karnataka.
- No rainfall was recorded across any observation stations.

Pune residents endured intense heat on Sunday, as maximum temperatures in several localities climbed above 40°C. Lohegaon registered the highest temperature at 41.9°C, followed closely by Koregaon Park at 41.8°C and Shivajinagar at 40.7°C.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) linked the heat surge to an anti-cyclonic circulation over interior Maharashtra and adjoining regions. The IMD forecast for Monday predicted a partly cloudy sky developing into generally cloudy conditions by afternoon, with a likelihood of thunderstorms, lightning, and light rain.
Despite the sweltering conditions, with relative humidity dropping as low as 17% in Lohegaon, no rainfall was recorded at any observation stations. IMD officials indicated that isolated light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds were possible in coastal Maharashtra and other regions of Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada between April 19th and 23rd.
As the summer heat intensifies, citizens have been urged to maintain hydration and limit exposure to the sun, especially during peak afternoon hours.
