Powerful Tropical Storm Targets East Coast This Weekend

According to an AccuWeather forecast, a tropical wind and rainstorm is expected to form off the Southeast coast as early as this Friday, October 4th, 2025. The system could potentially strengthen enough to prompt the National Hurricane Center to issue a name, in which case it would be called Tropical Storm Karen and would be the 11th named storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season.
Even if the storm does not receive an official name, AccuWeather meteorologists warn that it will still bring tropical storm-like impacts, with the hardest-hit areas expected to be northeastern North Carolina and southeastern Virginia this weekend. Concerns include coastal flooding, high winds up to 60 mph, and heavy rainfall that could lead to localized flooding.
The storm is set to arrive as the East Coast experiences king tides, which are exceptionally high tides that occur during a new or full moon. This will further increase the risk of coastal flooding in the affected regions. AccuWeather's lead hurricane expert, Alex DaSilva, stated that the Carolinas have already been dealing with significant coastal flooding issues, and this new storm could exacerbate the situation.
