The forecast indicates that a 1-2mm per hour deluge is expected to hit regions including the southwest of London, such as Aldershot and Guildford, as well as Peterborough, Cambridge, Hull, parts of the Southwest of England, and Scotland's Northwest coast on the evening of October 27th. While the Met Office has not yet issued any weather alerts, the heavy rainfall has raised concerns about potential flooding.
Looking further ahead, the Met Office has also unveiled its first winter outlook, which suggests that a weakening "Polar Vortex" could lead to freezing temperatures across the UK in the coming months. The Polar Vortex is a large circulation of winds in the stratosphere that can impact winter weather patterns, and a weaker vortex generally means a weaker jet stream, allowing more frequent spells of northerly or easterly winds to hit the country.
