Isolated strong storms are anticipated in the Piedmont Triad on Friday evening, with a severe thunderstorm watch active until 10 p.m. The atmosphere is conducive to severe storms capable of producing damaging winds up to 60 mph or hail. After the storms, temperatures are expected to drop from the 90s into the low 80s by late Friday night.
Saturday will bring scattered strong storms, featuring damaging winds and hail, with a Level 2 risk for severe weather across the Piedmont Triad. Temperatures will reach the mid-90s before storms develop. A cold front is expected to move through Saturday into Sunday, bringing temperatures down to near-normal September levels.
Sunday will see highs in the low to mid-80s with mostly cloudy skies and a chance of isolated showers and storms. Labor Day on Monday will be partly cloudy with highs in the low to mid-80s. By Tuesday, drier conditions and lower humidity are expected. However, a ridge of high pressure returning mid-week will bring back the heat, with highs reaching the low 90s by Thursday and Friday.
