12 Aug
Summary
- Monsoon storms caused significant damage, downing trees and power lines.
- Thousands of customers lost power overnight into Tuesday, Aug. 11.
- Rainfall totals reached impressive levels, with one area receiving over 1.34 inches.

Monsoon storms recently battered metro Phoenix, resulting in considerable damage from fallen trees and power lines. Thousands of customers experienced power outages overnight into Tuesday, August 11. The storm activity impacted northern Phoenix and northeast Maricopa County, alongside renewed downpours in the West Valley.
Most reported damage occurred in north Phoenix, particularly around Paradise Valley and north of the Phoenix Mountain Preserve. Power outages affected over 4,000 customers in north Phoenix and the West Valley, though most services were restored by Tuesday afternoon. Rainfall totals were substantial, with Grand Canyon University recording 1.34 inches and other areas receiving between 0.50 and 1.25 inches.
Combined rainfall from previous days led to flash flooding in the West Valley, with totals exceeding 2 inches in areas like Glendale and Buckeye. While storm chances are significantly reduced for Tuesday night into Wednesday, August 12, due to depleted atmospheric resources, the forecast for Wednesday into Thursday, August 13, remains uncertain as drier air moves in from the West. Northern and eastern areas may see final rain chances before drier conditions prevail.
