Ontario Heat Wave Breaks: Cool Relief Arrives Sunday
3 Jul
Summary
- Southern Ontario faces a heat wave with highs up to 37 C.
- Humidex values could reach 45 C in Toronto.
- Temperatures will drop significantly by Sunday, offering cool relief.

Much of southern Ontario is currently enduring a multi-day heat wave, prompting Environment and Climate Change Canada to issue heat warnings across the region. Maximum temperatures are expected to reach up to 37 degrees Celsius, with overnight lows offering little respite, remaining between 21 and 25 degrees Celsius. In Toronto, humidex values could climb as high as 45 degrees Celsius.
The intense heat is forecast to persist for several more days, with Friday expected to be similarly hot. However, a noticeable shift is predicted for Saturday, with daytime highs dropping to 29 degrees Celsius. The real relief will arrive Saturday night, as temperatures are anticipated to fall to a more comfortable 18 degrees Celsius, with further cooling expected on Sunday.
This period of intense heat is also contributing to an elevated risk of severe thunderstorms, particularly on Thursday, due to instability and moisture combined with an approaching cold front. Looking ahead to the rest of July, the Old Farmer's Almanac predicts average temperatures with potentially above-average precipitation in the east and below-average in southwestern Ontario.
