ODOT Crews Gear Up for Snow Blitz

Ohio Department of Transportation crews are mobilizing for round-the-clock operations to ensure roads remain clear during an anticipated winter storm. From the present through Sunday, personnel will work in 12-hour shifts to address the challenging conditions expected on state roadways. Drivers are strongly encouraged to modify their driving habits to match the weather, emphasizing the importance of attentiveness, particularly in congested and snowy environments.

To enhance safety, ODOT vehicles are now equipped with new light bars. This initiative aims to make snowplows more visible to other drivers, thereby reducing the number of collisions with ODOT trucks, which numbered 54 last year. The improved lighting also assists truck drivers in better seeing the plow's blade, contributing to more effective snow removal operations.

The timing of the snowfall is a critical factor, with ODOT expressing a preference for the heaviest accumulations to occur overnight. Residents are reminded that bridges and overpasses are particularly susceptible to freezing first, necessitating extra vigilance when traversing these sections of road. ODOT emphasizes safe driving practices throughout the winter season.
