Wildfire smoke caused hazy conditions across southwest Ohio on Friday, July 17. The thickest smoke was observed along and south of the I-70 corridor, potentially reaching the Ohio River. Winds were expected to shift by the afternoon, pushing the smoke northeastward and improving air quality by Saturday, July 18.
In addition to the smoke, scattered showers and thunderstorms were forecast to develop Friday afternoon and continue into the evening. While widespread severe weather was not anticipated, isolated severe storms with damaging wind gusts were possible. High atmospheric moisture levels raised concerns for torrential downpours and localized flooding, especially west of I-75.
The unsettled weather was projected to continue into Saturday with a cold front's arrival, potentially bringing storms. Conditions were expected to improve Saturday night with cooler, less humid air. Sunday, July 19, was forecasted to be calm, cool, and less humid, with highs in the mid-70s to high-80s.
