NYC Braces for Heat Wave and Wildfire Smoke
15 Jul
Summary
- Heat advisory issued for Tri-State Area with feels-like temps up to 105°F.
- NYC faces potential heat wave and deteriorating air quality from Canadian wildfires.
- Dangerous rip currents expected along Long Island and south of NYC.

A heat advisory is currently in effect for the majority of the Tri-State Area, with temperatures feeling as high as 105 degrees Fahrenheit. An extreme heat warning is also active for central and coastal New Jersey.
New York City is under an advisory for potentially deteriorating air quality on Wednesday due to smoke drifting from wildfires in western Ontario, Canada. Visible smoke is anticipated over the five boroughs during mid-morning.
Additionally, dangerous rip currents are a concern for swimmers along Long Island and south of the city on Wednesday. New Yorkers could experience their second heat wave of the summer if temperatures remain at or above 90 degrees for three consecutive days.
While this hot stretch may not be as intense as the one in early July, high heat indices will still create oppressive conditions. Peak heat is expected on Wednesday, with hot weather persisting through the end of the week. Showers and thunderstorms are possible later in the week, returning for the weekend.
