Northeast Ohio Schools Close Amidst Dangerous Heat Wave

Northeast Ohio schools are closing their doors on Wednesday as dangerously high heat and humidity are expected to grip the region. Heat index values are forecast to approach 100 degrees, prompting widespread closures in districts like North Olmsted City Schools and Constellation Schools. Some schools, such as those in Independence, are closing because their buildings lack air conditioning.

A heat advisory is in effect for all of Northeast Ohio until 8 p.m. Wednesday. Highs will be in the 90s, feeling like the upper 90s to around 100 degrees. Overnight temperatures will offer little respite, with lows only dropping into the mid-70s. Some thunderstorms are possible before daybreak, but most areas will dry out by late morning before temperatures climb. Cooler weather is anticipated by Labor Day weekend.
