North Jersey Braces for Heat Index Near 100 Degrees
11 Jun
Summary
- Heat advisory in effect for Thursday and Friday, June 11-12.
- Heat index could reach up to 100 degrees with high humidity.
- Severe thunderstorms with damaging winds are also possible.

A heat advisory is in effect for North Jersey, including Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Morris, Passaic, and Sussex counties, starting Thursday, June 11, at noon and continuing until Friday, June 12, at 8 p.m. Residents can expect dangerously hot conditions with a heat index potentially reaching 100 degrees, exacerbated by high humidity.
The National Weather Service has cautioned that these extreme temperatures and humidity levels could lead to heat-related illnesses. While some showers and thunderstorms are anticipated on Thursday and Friday afternoons, providing temporary local relief, much cooler and less humid weather is forecast for the weekend following the passage of a cold front.
Furthermore, there is a possibility of severe thunderstorms developing late Thursday and Friday afternoons into evenings. The primary threat from these storms would be damaging wind gusts. The NWS defines a heat advisory as conditions feeling like 95-99 degrees for two or more consecutive days, or 100-104 degrees for any duration.
