North India experienced significant rainfall on August 24, 2026, causing widespread disruptions. The Delhi-NCR region bore the brunt, with Gurugram reporting 70 mm of rain by early afternoon, leading to severe waterlogging in key areas and trapping vehicles, including school buses and ambulances.
In Delhi, major roads and underpasses faced waterlogging, with some areas experiencing waist-deep water. This inclement weather led to at least 15 flight diversions at Delhi airport, with some flights being rerouted to Jaipur and Chandigarh. Many flights also faced delays or cancellations.
Beyond the Delhi-NCR, parts of Rajasthan, including Jaipur and Alwar, received heavy rainfall, causing traffic disruptions and inundating markets and residential areas. Uttar Pradesh also saw light to moderate showers, with heavy spells in Ghaziabad leading to severe waterlogging and traffic congestion. In Himachal Pradesh, the rain blocked 98 roads, disrupting vehicular traffic and power supply.
Odisha also received heavy rainfall, with eight places recording over 100 mm of downpour. The meteorological department noted a low-pressure system over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining areas, indicating potential for more thunderstorms in the region.
