NorCal Braces for Muggy Heat, Storms

Northern California is bracing for an unusually muggy and hot week as post-tropical cyclone Elida moves towards the Pacific coastline. Although the storm's center is expected to dissipate near the Bay Area, it could bring thunderstorms and possibly heavy rain to the region. This development has prompted a red flag warning for southwestern Siskiyou, Humboldt, and Trinity counties due to critical fire weather conditions, with thunderstorms posing an extreme fire risk.

The San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento Valley will experience increased humidity. Coastal areas of the Bay Area are forecast to remain in the mid-60s to mid-70s, with inland areas reaching the low-70s to low-80s. While the Sacramento Valley may see more cloud cover and a stray shower, the primary concern there is prolonged heat, with temperatures expected to exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit from Monday to Wednesday.

Residents planning outdoor activities in national parks or forests are advised to monitor the evolving forecast due to the storm's unpredictable nature. The National Weather Service recommends carrying ample water and taking breaks to prevent heat-related illnesses, especially in mountain areas.
