New Jersey is bracing for a severe blizzard, with forecasts indicating a 90% chance of at least one foot of snow impacting all 21 counties. Governor Mikie Sherrill announced a state of emergency, effective noon, and warned of potentially the worst snowfall in three decades.
To mitigate risks, commercial traffic will face road closures starting at 3 p.m. Sunday, accompanied by a 35 mph speed limit. NJ Transit services, including buses and light rail, are set to stop running by 6 p.m. Sunday, with train services also under close monitoring.
The storm, expected to intensify overnight with snowfall rates potentially reaching three inches per hour, is predicted to continue into Monday afternoon. Utility companies are coordinating with the Board of Public Utilities to manage anticipated widespread power outages due to heavy winds and dense snow accumulation.
